Hello Friends,
I would like to say it's been busy ever since we returned from winter break. There has been a cycle of new learning, second round of teaching observations. We have been working with staff on the collection of evidence in the 5 dimensions of teaching and learning and how those then connect to Washington States 8 State Criteria.
ASCD’s new topic for the upcoming month, shares many issues around getting teachers that understand ELL’s not just in the classroom but are teachers that can relate to parents and backgrounds. I have done much work in this area and have observed that the teachers that truly make the biggest impact on students are those that look like their students and can relate to their students on many levels beyond just academics.
I was glad to read these articles as it puts the spot light on topics that many of face as minority educators. It will continue to be my goal as an administrator to maintain those lines of communication with parents, students and partners that believe in our children and their heritage.
New items of learning in Special Education this week has been learning more about Star Kits and how they can be used in a life-skills/Resource Room Setting to teach our students the basic understanding of language and much more. I will post more as we gain a better understanding on how to launch these lessons with students. If you’d like more information on this resources visit www.startautismsuppport.com
Have you celebrated the 100th day of school with students? If so I’d love to hear your ideas and or activities.
Later on in the month I will share ideas and take-aways from learning about ELA and Mathematics shifts and how we can have great coaching conversations with staff around the new CCSS and the rigor they require us to incorporate into the lesson we plan for students.
Best wishes,
Your Friendly Blogger
