Holidays are soon upon Us

Hello Friends,

As we set forth in the upcoming weeks and how that affects or students and our teaching I would like to point out a few things that I am sure will help ease the stress and workload of teaching and planning.

As the holidays arrive and schools plan assemblies, gatherings, reunions for the entire student body a few things to keep in mind are:

1. Plan for the full week, if something comes up that was planned or unplanned ask your building leaders these questions.  What are subjects that are a priority to be taught during the instructional day? What assessments are upcoming and critical that i review and teach those concepts to my class?

2. Communicate any changes to the schedule with your students. Many students need time to adjust to a change in their school routine and if at all possible communicate all these events through face to face conversation, classroom newsletters or classroom web pages.

If you have not had the opportunity to look at common core standards in depth i have a great resource for reading and mathematics.

Books for ELA: The Common Core Companion the standards decoded,What they say, What they mean and How to teach them By Authors Sharon Taberski and Jim Burke Grades k-2, 3-5, 6-8

Mathematics:The Common Core Mathematics Companion the standards decoded,What they say, What they mean and How to teach them By Authors Linda M. Gojak and Ruth Harbin Miles.  Grades k-2, 3-5, 6-8

In addition, if your a Special Education educator there this website will be a great resources when looking at the common core standards for ELA and Mathematics and what it looks like when you pull its Essential Elements for students on your caseloads. Visit:  www.dynamiclearningmaps.org

May the upcoming weeks of teaching bring some aha moments and may you take the time to reflect on each students educational journey and the steps they have in your classroom.

Sincerely Yours,

Esmeralda
