Spring flowers and How many days until Summer?

Hello!

I want to say Thank you for your support and frequent visits to my blog.  So this week I have a few things to share many related to to topic of Education and some to merely get you to look out your window as you read my blog and reflect on how wonderful the landscape and things around you.

ASCD's March 2015 Magazine:

Wow! I just read a great article that I would like to share in writing my thoughts and experiences and my take aways as a reader.

The Caring Teacher's Manifesto by Carol Ann Tomlinson:

I enjoyed reading her article on caring for all students it reminds me that as an educator and instructional leader it is key for me to provide the best education for the students in my classroom and  share this similar vision with the staff in my building.  The key message needs to be that it is our job to teach and understand that one lesson does not fit all, but we must find ways to ensure all student's find understanding in a way that makes sense to them as the learners.

My favorite part of Carol's article was "If I accept responsibility for each student's academic well-being, I will ground my teaching in hope. I will see promise in every student every day."  This is so important for me as a minority teacher because, our students need to see teachers who can relate to their culture and heritage backgrounds and I am more invested in their academic future and have worked and will continue to work to strengthen my communication with parents and school for the benefit of our students and their future.

Finally I think of my own experience going through the school system and can vividly hear my mothers voice say that she sent us to school and expected us to do well although her and my father were more times than not unable to assist us in school work or attend our parent teacher conferences due to work and lack of schooling themselves.  But she says she did what she could because we were are and are her and my fathers future.

She often tells me is is proud of my many accomplishments although I have had many trails and have had to face many challenges in my current position, but I remain hopeful and know that I do it for every student I teach and represent.  As an instructional leader I want to be the voice and hope for all students of Mexican, Mexican-American, Mixteco, Mixteco-American and Native-American students backgrounds.  I focus my work to bring the change that will give students  rigorous academic opportunities.

One way I have brought opportunities for students is through my collaboration with University of Washington and Vex Robotics for Elementary Students our challenge program received two kits for our students. in 2013-14 our 4th grade students brought home a trophy this year 2014-15 we brought home 5 trophy's.  Thank you Mr. Ben Newell for your work and dedication to teaching robotics to our 4th and 5th grade students.
