End of February

Its a busy time as we have crossed the 100 day mark. And like many of the students in my school they are excited because they are 100 days smarter.

Wow! what a journey toward the 100th day of school and, do you know what that means? That for many schools there are only 80 days left in the  year.

What does that me for me as a teacher?

* That I have 80 more days to ensure that all the students in my classroom receive at least 1/2 year to 1 years growth from where they came in on the first day of school.

*Prepare my Data, Artifacts and Evidence to show to my Principal that I have met my three growth areas in my evaluation process.   I will be more specific for the Danielson Framework, as that is what I am most knowledgeable using.

Goal #3 requires teachers to identify a sub group of students that the teacher then identify an area those students could show improvement toward.

Goal #6 requires the teacher to set a goal his/her entire class will meet before the end of the year and the teacher is able to show growth over time for each student in the classroom.

Goal#8 The teacher sets a goal with his/her grade level team and set a goal in a Common Core State Standards area or strand that a percentage of the grade level students/cohort will meet before the end of the year.

Examples to come:

What does that me for me as the Principal?

As I entire the middle of my second year as an Elementary Principal I am almost nearing the end of the second round of observations and scheduling mid year conferences with staff.

Why am I scheduling a mid year with teachers?

1.  To have a face to face conversation on the progress of the teachers goals.

2. To look at the evaluation and observations to date and provide support, ideas and examples of how the teacher can prepare for the final evaluation.

3. Ask teachers if they feel students  are progressing and if each student will meet the goal he/she set out to attain and if not why?
